New RoG® TR Dog V2 GPS: All the improvements over the Master & Speeder version

In an increasingly technological hunting environment, the precision of the GPS dog collar has become essential to track and manage hunting dogs efficiently. The RoG® Hunting Master & Speeder GPS kit, widely acclaimed since 2023, had already proven its reliability in the field. But to meet the evolving expectations of hunters in terms of performance, ergonomics, and regulations, RoG® Hunting has pushed the limits with an all-new version: the RoG® Hunting TR Dog V2 GPS. A model designed for tough environments, combining technical innovations and intuitive handling, it stands out with key upgrades aimed at optimizing real-time tracking, battery life, connectivity, equipment security, and ease of use, among other features. This article provides an overview of the main improvements compared to the previous version.

RoG® Hunting: A Brand Built for the Field

For over 14 years, the RoG® Hunting brand has become a key reference among hunters and professional trainers. Internationally recognized for the ruggedness of its equipment and the quality of its service, RoG® designs geolocation solutions that meet real-world field conditions, whether in Europe’s dense forests or North America’s vast open spaces. Certified to the highest standards (IPX7, CE, FCC, RoHS, among others), the brand relies on deep expertise and develops its own antennas and accessories, compatible with Garmin, Dogtra systems, and of course, its own GPS devices. This specialization has enabled it to offer hunters GPS dog collars that combine performance, reliability, and durability—even in the most extreme conditions.

Enhanced Tracking Performance and Connectivity

Wider VHF and GSM Coverage

The new RoG® TR Dog V2 GPS dog collar stands out with a significantly improved signal range, ensuring reliability even in the most remote areas. Thanks to redesigned antennas, the VHF coverage is nearly doubled compared to the previous version: it increases from 1.9–3.1 miles (3–5 km) to 4.3–6.2 miles (7–10 km) with the standard RoG® antenna. For hunters operating over large territories, the RoG® Master & Dogtra 103 cm roof antenna now offers an impressive range of 9.3–12.4 miles (15–20 km), compared to 6.2–9.3 miles (10–15 km) previously.

Whether you're in open fields, forests, or more challenging terrain, this increased range ensures precise tracking of your dogs without interruption. And for those who prefer the GSM mode, there’s no distance limit: data transmission remains unlimited—perfect for hunting across large territories with mobile network coverage.

Integration of a Multi-Carrier International eSIM

Another major innovation: the removal of the physical SIM card in favor of an integrated multi-carrier eSIM. This new feature simplifies the management of mobile data directly through the dedicated mobile app, with no technical handling required. It also provides better network coverage by automatically switching to the strongest carrier based on the hunting area, throughout Europe and internationally.

In terms of cost, data plans are now more affordable, with prices reduced by 30 to 50% compared to previous prepaid SIM cards: starting at €2 per week, €11 for six months, or €20 for the year. A flexible, reliable, and cost-effective system that allows hunters to stay connected without hassle.

A Smarter, Safer Kit for Both Trainer and Dog

Two-Way Voice Communication for Even More Precise Training

The new voice feature built into the RoG® Hunting TR Dog V2 GPS kit is a major advancement for demanding hunters and dog trainers. Thanks to a two-way communication system, the handheld unit now allows you to record and send voice commands directly to the collar, while also listening remotely to barking or ambient sounds around the dog. This upgrade makes training more intuitive—especially over long distances where visual contact is not possible.

Unlike the previous Master & Speeder version, which only allowed environmental listening, the TR Dog V2 enables true voice interaction between the user and their dog, strengthening the bond between handler and animal at a distance. In action, this feature offers more precise and immediate control of your dog’s behavior, while providing real-time reassurance to the trainer.

New Recall Training System with Audible Beep

Always attuned to regulatory changes and user needs, RoG® has updated its approach to canine training. On this new TR Dog V2 version, electrostatic stimulation has been completely removed, anticipating upcoming European restrictions on electronic pet training devices (this option remains available on compatible RoG® Speeder collars).

Instead, the V2 GPS collar introduces a new audible recall system, effective and respectful of the animal. It works using three levels of remote-controlled beep signals, allowing the hunter to adapt the signal based on the dog’s profile and the situation in the field. This system is paired with the retained vibration mode in this new generation. With no physical contact points or electric shocks, it’s a modern, ethical solution tailored to working with scent hounds.

Anti-Theft Mode for Greater Field Security

In addition to these training upgrades, the TR Dog V2 GPS kit enhances equipment security with the introduction of an innovative anti-theft mode. This feature allows you to remotely switch the collar into standby mode, preventing any unauthorized use or activation.

Simple yet highly effective, this system provides hunters with added peace of mind. Whether you're protecting your valuable gear or ensuring the safety of your four-legged partner, this standby mode adds a welcome layer of control when traveling or in case of loss or theft.

Improved Ergonomics for Quick and Easy Handling

More Compact Handheld Unit and Simplified Interface

Designed to meet the demands of the field, the new RoG® Hunting TR Dog V2 kit emphasizes enhanced ergonomics. The handheld unit has been redesigned into a more compact format (4.9 x 2.4 x 1.2 in) (12.5 x 6.2 x 3.1 cm), while retaining the same 6.1 cm (2.4 in) diagonal screen for excellent readability—even in action. The menu navigation has also been optimized, offering a smoother and more intuitive interface, especially during quick handling in the middle of a hunt.

Another welcome feature for group users: tracking other RoG® handhelds is now built in. Each user equipped with a device can see the activity of fellow team members in real time, improving coordination in the field and ensuring everyone's safety. On the equipment side, the total collar weight has also been slightly reduced—from 10.6 oz to 9.9 oz (300 g to 280 g)—without compromising waterproofing (IP67 rating) or hardware durability.

Optimized Battery Life for Long Outings

Power efficiency has also been improved to meet the demands of long hunting sessions. On the collar side, battery life has been increased by 30% thanks to an optimized design and a 3500 mAh lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable and user-replaceable. This increases runtime from 20–40 hours on the previous version to 30–50 hours on the V2 model, enough to cover more than a full day of use without recharging.

The handheld unit now features a more powerful 2300 mAh LiPo battery (rechargeable and replaceable), compared to the previous version. Although the stated battery life is slightly reduced (15 to 24 hours versus 20 to 40 hours previously), this trade-off powers more advanced electronics that are more resource-intensive—without compromising the reliability you need during intense hunts.

RoG® Hunting TR Dog V2: A New Generation of Hunting Dog GPS Collars

With its enhanced tracking performance, new sound-based training system, reinforced safety features, and completely redesigned ergonomics, the RoG® TR Dog V2 represents a major leap forward in the world of GPS collars for hunting dogs. It remains fully compatible with Speeder collars (which retain the option of electrostatic stimulation for training) and all accessories from the previous version, including roof antennas, telescopic and flexible V1 antennas to boost range performance in the field. The TR Dog V2 handheld makes for a seamless transition to more modern technology without sacrificing the needs of today’s users.

Both collar models will continue to be offered in parallel to meet all user profiles—from passionate hunters to professionals. Collars with electrostatic stimulation remain primarily intended for military dogs and scent hounds. Thanks to its hybrid VHF/GSM connectivity and Bluetooth-based data transmission (with no need to rely on your phone’s GSM network), its built-in anti-theft mode, and optimized battery life, the TR Dog V2 has positioned itself as the most complete and reliable GPS kit on the market today. All that’s left is to step into the new RoG® generation and fully enjoy your next hunting adventures—with more control, security, and precision.
